Vintage Poodles and Scottie Dogs

Each era seems to have had a fascination with a particular animal i think poodles were  very popular in the 1960’s and were regularly featured on buttons knitting patterns etc.

These poodle buttons are so sweet i did have a couple of sets in blue but they sold pretty quickly but don’t despair i have 6 sets of the yellow version for sale at my ebid store Henrietta’s Vintage

The Scottie Dog was popular in the 1940’s and was  featured on a myriad of items including Buttons, Clothes, Ornaments, Brooches/Pins, pendants, Greetings Cards, adverts, and even a monopoly playing  piece. Famous Scottie dog owners include Franklin Roosevelt, George W Bush, Queen Victoria, Eva Braun, Dwight D Eisenhower, Rudyard Kipling, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Tatum O’ Neal.

Noble Savage Vintage As Seen On Boardwalk Empire

One of the more obvious perks of operating  Noble Savage Vintage out of NYC is the access to shows and events such as Manhattan Vintage clothing Show, which is just wonderful for connecting small business owners, such as myself to a world of clientele within film and television, theater and fashion as well as some pretty fabulous vinties.  

I have been very fortunate over the past few years to provide quite a few pieces to the team behind Boardwalk Empire.  Mainly tuxedos and waistcoats, which typically are not the easiest pieces to spot on TV.  However,  while watching the Season 4 Premier, I was extremely excited to spot  June Thompson, portrayed by Nisi Sturgis, wearing one of my favorite dresses during the Thompson family dinner scene.  This early 1920’s dress was sold last winter in near mint condition and is fabricated in an incredible forest green crinkled silk.  It’s bodice features a lovely hand done embroidery and there is the cutest little padded heart shaped pocket on the hip.  How thrilling it is to see one of my all time favorite dresses on one of my all time favorite shows!  Hopefully we will spot a few more pieces during Season 4.

Ellen Kaye Dresses

I recently added this fun and fabulous 1940’s Conversational Print dress by Ellen Kaye to my shop Noble Savage Vintage on Ruby Lane. It is one of my favorite pieces and I just adore it’s quirky print, which consists of a repeat of swordfish and a ladies head. I typically see 1950’s dresses from this maker. I decided to do a little bit of research.

It turns out that the name has been around since 1922, trademarked by LANG-KOHN, INC. of  ST. LOUIS.   Apparantly , St. Louis was the origin of the junior apparel craze.   In 1926,  Lang-Kohn, Inc. would become the company, that manufactured the first junior size garments in the country.  I found quite a few Ellen Kaye ads in the Newspaper archives and thought I would share a few.

The Jantzen company made more than vintage swimwear

Most people, and even I always associated Jantzen with vintage swimwear.

With the diving figure logo that always comes to mind first.

But they made many kinds of vintage knit sportswear clothing.
