Joan Rivers is quoted as saying “No woman I know
could ever be a terrorist. Put a bomb in a Gucci bag? Oh, no way!”
A funny quote to be sure, but I think most women feel strongly about their handbags whether it’s a Gucci or a $5 find from the thrift store. Statistics from Shop Etc. tell us that the average woman has six handbags – what? only six? I don’t know any woman who only has 6 bags. My closet currently holds about 15 and I’m not a handbag hoarder, a clutch cacher, or a pocketbook pack rat. One bag we can never have enough of is the convenient clutch. Because of their compact size and all purpose handiness they are a great way to add numbers without bulk to your accessories wardrobe.

A Classic Style That’s Worth Repeating

It’s true “what goes around comes around” and that especially applies in fashion. While many styles come back for an encore, there are some that are just so endlessly classic, they never go out of style. Case in point is the Kelly style handbag, named after Grace Kelly, Princess Grace of Monaco The Kelly is one of the most recognizable and greatest bags of our time. Although the Hermès company wants to keep the name all to themselves, it’s become a commonly used name for handbags of the iconic shape. You can find bags in this style starting in the 1930s, but it was in the 1950s that it truly became a bag that every woman had to have in her closet. You can find all colors and materials in the Kelly style to compliment your vintage wardrobe.

Take a page out of Princess Anne’s book….

Well it’s only a matter of days before Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot. One of the things I really enjoy seeing are the hats and dresses that the ladies wear. We might even see Princess Anne recycle something she’s already worn, as she did when attending the wedding of Lady Rose and George Gilman. Princess Anne is known for her tendency to repeat outfits and is known to have said, “‘A good suit goes on for ever. If it is properly made and has a classic look you can go on wearing it ad infinitum.”

Purses are a very personal choice for all women. My own personal preference is a satchel style purse while my mom’s favorite was a purse with as many compartments as possible.
