April Day – The First Flower of the Plain

When the warm sun, that brings
Seed-time and harvest, has returned again,
‘Tis sweet to visit the still wood, where springs
The first flower of the plain

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Hawaiian Icon, Alfred Shaheen Designs!

In vintage we all have different “Holy Grails”.  For the collector of Hawaiian textiles, Alfred Shaheen is the master & is credited for popularizing the Hawaiian Shirt.  His hand painted fabric captured the flora & faun of the Hawaiian islands as well as the tribal traditions.  He not only produced the fabrics but also created clothing with fabulous full skirt sundress, sarong dresses, swimsuits & of course the ever popular men’s shirt!  He was easily one of the best known Hawaiian & garment manufactures of the 20th century & his work spans from the 50′s to the 80′s!  Here are some current Alfred Shaheen dresses being shown on The Hula Hut
