Vintage Fashions in Beautiful Plaids

Plaid isn’t just for lumberjacks, cold winter nights or hipsters. Plaid has emerged to fabulous fashions in wonderful fabrics way beyond flannel shirts. The signature apparel of Scotland in the late 17th century is still beautiful today and offered in so many styles and colors. Life is a Picnic in Vintage

I don’t know about you, but I look forward to the warm temperatures of Spring. Easy, comfortable and cute dresses, that go from the office to a picnic with a simple change of footwear. Here are a few selections from Noble Savage Vintage on Ruby Lane.

Stiletto! The Well Heeled Lady!

Stiletto actually means a thin tapered blade referring to a knife like object, but in shoes “stiletto” refers to a type of shoe heel that is pointy, thin and high. Also called “spike” or “spiked” heels. Made popular in the 50′s/60′s, and certainly that holds true for today! An interesting quote I came across in my “Stiletto” book by Caroline Cox states “Most women prefer a trip to hell in high heels than to walk flat-heeled to heaven! The “Stiletto” spells sex, with an erotic
allure and the supreme symbol of femininity!

At Scorpio Vintage we offer the “Original” 50′s stiletto, along with the current version worn today!

Suits for ALL Occasions!

While in the past decades, suits were a staple for the working girl, today it’s a different story. Suits can & do go anywhere. They’re great travel pieces with versatility. If you have a three-piece suit, with both a skirt & pants it would be ideal to pack if you’re planning a cruise. Basically they are a staple that can be dressed up or down, and mixed with other pieces that you’ve brought along.

If you want to go “glam” suits can give you a tuxedo look, or you can go with a highly decorated beaded & sequined suit with a full length skirt.

And…suits don’t have to have a traditional jacket. Some incorporate a “Poncho” look, while others take on a more dramatic look with a shawl. No matter how you cut it, suits are great little additions to your wardrobe. Scorpio Vintage is proud to present these suits for your pleasure!

Vintage Skirt Suits Perfect for Fall

Vintage skirt suits are so perfect for cool fall mornings, and when the weather warms in the afternoon, you slip off your jacket and still look darling. Going out after the office? The jacket back on and your suit is perfect for dinner out. Darling as separates, mix and match the skirts with other tops, the jackets with pants or other skirts to make them even more versatile.

Fashion might be suggesting an austere season of minimalism in neutral greys and camel, but, as much as love a bit of pared-down elegance, when the leaves start falling I always seem to reach for the plaids.

Plaids have a sense of tradition and the warming comforts of nostalgia.  They can be startling and bold, or subtle and muted.  And they can provide a lively counterpoint to those severe neutrals in an outfit fit to brave those chilly winds.

I’m seeing this jumpsuit warmed up with a shearling bomber jacket and tucked into some chunky ankle boots (flats or heels would work equally well).

This pleated wool plaid skirt would look fabulous with a cape or a tailored jacket, and maybe a prim roll-neck (for UK readers a polo neck) sweater – preferably cashmere!
