Timeless ~ CHANEL never goes out of style

CHANEL. A name that inspire, transforms and her design simple last a lifetime.

She was an influential French fashion designer, and founded the name/brand Chanel. Her practical design, and pursuit of expensive simplicity made her an important and influential figure in 20th-century fashion. She took women out of the corsets and freed them from those restraints forever. Fashion has never been the same since. She was the only fashion designer to be named on TIME 100 The Most Important People of the Century.

The Hula Hut and More Store has been fortunate in one of our recent buying trips to obtain some of her shoes, while not true vintage, we would still like to present them as a tribute to “Gabrielle “Coco” Bonheur Chanel”

The HULA HUT and MORE STORE has really grown, and we’ve listed  many unique collectible items along with our vintage clothing and shoes.  What’s coming up is fabulous, so check our store out.

Ride the Waves! Surfboard Prints

Surfing has been around (believe it or not) since the mid 1700′s.  Probably before that, but this is the earliest recording.  It was Captain James Cook’s third expedition to Hawaii.  When they stopped at the western end of the island chain on their way from Tahiti to the northwest coast of North America.

Today surfing and surfboards are a traditional way of life in Hawaii..the ultimate ride is:   The tube ride!  And is considered to be the ultimate maneuver in surfing. As a wave breaks, if the conditions are ideal, the wave will break in an orderly line from the middle to the shoulder, enabling the experienced surfer to position him / her self actually inside the wave as it is breaking. This is known as a tube ride.

If you want to experience the Hawaiian Surfboard..the easy way is to wear it in the form of a surfboard print!  Here’s a few from THE HULA HUT.

Come visit the Hula Hut, for your Hawaiian, Tropical & Resort Wear!

Hawaiian Pictorial Shirts

I always love the pictorial scenes on fabrics.  They show a village scene, a feast scene, sometimes it’s a bit closure with several people. The Savage “Feast”  painting that depicts the Hawaiian feast is probably the most famous and was used for the menu cover by the Matson line.  Highly collectible, and much sought after.  While we at THE HULA HUT don’t have that beautiful print, we do have lots of scenic, pictorial shirts for the men in your life.

This one is for the kiddies, lets not leave them out!

Here’s a mens shirt showing the famous Diamondhead along with beautiful fish….Angel fish to be specific

This one is a take off on the “Savage” feast print

This one has the lounging Wahini.  Really bright colors on a black background

Weddings in Hawaii – The “his and hers” Matched Set

Many couple chose Hawaii for their nuptials, and what could be more romantic than a wedding ceremony on a sunset beach.  While traditional attire may be the choice of some, many couples want to get into the full flavor of the islands and so choose matching sets.

Hawaiian Women in Hawaiian Fashion!

“Lovely hula hands” the song!  Most of you have heard it, as it’s a golden oldie from the past.  It is the title of a famous and very saccharine song written by a haole who fell in love with Hawaii in the pre-Statehood era.  A romanticized views of hula dancers and Hawaiian culture in general, but Hawaiian women have always been a focal point on many men’s shirts.  From the traditional “Hula” girl, to more modern women!

Hula girls have adorned clothing, purses, tee’s, license plates, bumper stickers for decades.  We bring you your own personal hula girl in several selections from the Hula Hut!

Finally, a Corn Husk Tote!

Men’s Hawaiian Shirts Or the ALOHA Shirt!

The Aloha shirt is a style of dress shirt originating in Hawaii. It is currently the premier textile export of the Hawaii manufacturing industry. The shirts are printed, mostly short-sleeved, and collared. They usually have buttons, sometimes as a complete button-down shirt, and sometimes just down to the chest (pullover). Aloha shirts usually have a left chest pocket sewn in, often with attention to ensure the printed pattern remains continuous. Aloha shirts may be worn by men or women; women’s aloha shirts usually have a lower-cut, v-neck style. The lower hem is straight, as the shirts are not meant to be tucked in.

Aloha shirts exported to the mainland United States and elsewhere are called Hawaiian shirts and often brilliantly colored with floral patterns or generic Polynesian motifs and are worn as casual, informal wear. The Hula Hut provides Vintage along with more modern & current Hawaiian Trends, such as the every colorful Jams World. Proudly presented by the Hula Hut…Just click on the picture to go to the listing.

Hawaiian Barkcloth Fashions!

Barkcloth is a versatile material that was once common in Asia, Africa, Indonesia, and the Pacific. Barkcloth comes primarily from several tree varities. It is made by beating sodden strips of the fibrous inner bark of these trees into sheets, which are then finished into a variety of items. Many texts that mention “paper” clothing are actually referring to barkcloth.

Presently, barkcloth or bark cloth is a soft, thick, slightly textured fabric, so named because it has a rough surface like that of tree bark. This barkcloth is usually made of densely woven cotton fibers. Historically, the fabric has been used in home furnishings, such as curtains, drapery, upholstery, and slipcovers. It is often associated with 1940s-through-1960s home fashions, particularly in tropical or Hawaiian prints, along with the ever popular abstract, “atomic” and “boomerang” prints. Today if you can’t get an authentic vintage barkcloth you can always resort to the authentic reprints from several manufactures. The HULA HUT is proud to present several of our currently listings that utilize vintage barkcloth in both women’s & men’s fashions.
