Timeless ~ CHANEL never goes out of style

CHANEL. A name that inspire, transforms and her design simple last a lifetime.

She was an influential French fashion designer, and founded the name/brand Chanel. Her practical design, and pursuit of expensive simplicity made her an important and influential figure in 20th-century fashion. She took women out of the corsets and freed them from those restraints forever. Fashion has never been the same since. She was the only fashion designer to be named on TIME 100 The Most Important People of the Century.

The Hula Hut and More Store has been fortunate in one of our recent buying trips to obtain some of her shoes, while not true vintage, we would still like to present them as a tribute to “Gabrielle “Coco” Bonheur Chanel”

The HULA HUT and MORE STORE has really grown, and we’ve listed  many unique collectible items along with our vintage clothing and shoes.  What’s coming up is fabulous, so check our store out.

We’re Migrating & Assimilating

Scorpio Vintage has been a long time seller of high quality vintage clothing on Ebay…but we’ve decided to combine, upgrade, and assimilate with our other store THE ONLY HULA HUT, which now has been renamed to:  THE HULA HUT & MORE STORE (actually reads thehulahutandmorestore).  Along with our Hula Hut partner, we will combine three stores into ONE!

When Scorpio Vintage current listings end, they will be moved to the existing store, along with some fabulous items from our recent buying trips.  Just wait till you see the Chanel shoes, and the St. John Knits we’ve acquired.

For now, I just wish to thank each and every one of my customers, and hope that you’ll continue to purchases from our newer and improved store.  Here’s that last look at current items offered from Scorpio Vintage….Next month look out world.

Pretty in Pink

Remember the 80′s movie starring Molly Ringwald, along with several other teenagers that went on the great careers in Hollywood.  It’s the story of teenage high school prom romance that featured a great pink dress that became Iconic.

Pink is symbolic of pure love, for example & is normally the color associated with girls and femininity. Pink is considered a color of good health and life – we speak of people being “in the pink” or the “freshness” of a newborn babe.

In 1947, fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli introduced the color “hot pink” to western fashion. She dubbed the shade “Shocking Pink,” though today the color is more well-known as “magenta.”   Here are some “pinks” from SCORPIO VINTAGE

Seeing Red!

Red is the warmest of all colors. Red is the color most chosen by extroverts and one of the top picks of males. On the negative side red can mean temper or anger.

In China, red is the color of prosperity and joy. Brides wear red and front doors are often painted red. Red is Tuesday’s color. Red roses symbolize passionate love. Ruby rings should be worn on the left hand. Red is the color of Mars. This planet is known as the God of War.

With that being said, and Valentines Day coming up, I thought I would do a series dedicated to that day of passion & love by honoring the many shades & styles that go with the color RED!

Still having cold weather, so how about this cute little loop fringe cardigan?

Still in the Winter mode with this lovely “tone on tone” red skirt from Escada

Glamor is the name of this sexy one shoulder evening dress

For day wear, how about this one piece dress with a two piece look?

Since Red is one of my favorite colors, I’ll be listing more.  Check back for more fabulous items that are soon to be listed.  Wear a dramatic color for Valentines Day!

Happy New Year!

The members of Best in Vintage would like to wish all our blog followers, facebook friends and twitter followers a Very Happy, Healthy and wonderful New Year filled with love and joy.

Ruched Bodice Beautifully Designed Dresses

Ceil Chapman was among those who succeeded in adapting Christian Dior’s “New Look” for relatively affordable cocktail wear targeted toward the American ready-to-wear market.  She was the Queen of ruching which are tiny folds/pleats incorporated into a dress bodice horizontally or diagonally.

Ceil Chapman was reportedly Marilyn Monroe’s favorite fashion designer.  She provided the trousseau for Elizabeth Taylor’s 1950 wedding to Conrad “Nicky” Hilton.  Other celebrity clients included Deborah Kerr,  Greer Garson, Grace Kelly and Aretha Franklin.

We honor and adore her designs.  Scorpio Vintage is proud to offer these Special Occasions dresses, that while they are not a Ceil Chapman, they incorporate the delicate ruching in the bodice, and would be perfect for the upcoming HOLIDAY PARTIES.

Delicate red silk dress with wrap style ruched bodice.  Available now at Scorpio Vintage

A classic “Tuxedo” look from GUNNE SAX, with at ruched inset panel in white satin.  Available now at Scorpio Vintage

Bombshell cocktail dress, is a outstanding design by Victor Costa in a vibrant turquoise, with a…yep you guessed it a ruched bodice.  Dress has an additional feature in the tulip skirt.  Available only at Scorpio Vintage

This dress is absolutely stunning.  Strapless sweetheart neckline, and ruched panels on each side.  At Scorpio Vintage, waiting for it’s new home.

Vintage Fashions and Accessories in Harvest Moon Colors

“Harvest Moon”

Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin’
We could dream this night away.

But there’s a full moon risin’
Let’s go dancin’ in the light
We know where the music’s playin’
Let’s go out and feel the night.
~ Neil Young

The full moon is always so beautiful this time of year, and Neil Young’s suggestion to go out and dance in the harvest moon light is so romantic; in fact there are many songs, poems about the Harvest Moon and how beautiful it is..Even though we aren’t harvesting; we can all enjoy the glorious colors of the October moon.

Here are just a few fabulous items from members of Best In Vintage in the beautiful colors of the moonlight in the fall to wear if you are dancing in the moonlight or just admiring it.

Oh Them Golden Slippers

From the past into the present!  History tells us that gold shoes have really never gone out of style.  Roman women wore a gold gladiator style shoes.  In ancient times elite families gold shoes were literally made from real gold!

Of course today’s shoes are not made of real gold, but none the less have forever been a favorite, and will always be in fashion.  The golden dress shoe, pump or sandal will always be perfect for a formal occasion.  What does make the “gold” shoe exceptional?  Design is first, and don’t forget how adaptable they are.  They will easily go with a number of dress colors.

Check out these current listings at
Scorpio Vintage

With the holiday parties just around the corner, why not shop for your “golden” slippers now.

A TOUCH OF FUR!

Winter coats or any coat for that matter can be plain, but with just a little touch of fur you have bit of pizzazz!  Fur can be on the collar, cuffs or even fully lined!  It can spruce up an older coat, and give it a whole new look.  Then of course there’s the faux fur, and the animal print faux fur.

Here’s a few “Eye Candies” for your pleasure.

Made for the colder temperatures, this heavy textured wool coat has beauty and elegance when it’s topped off with a wide mink collar.

For those evenings out, we have a lighter weight faille in a neutral tone, with a mink collar that is done in a bit of a “wrap” style going down the front slightly.

These next two beauties are featured on our “COMING ATTRACTIONS”.  Both are stroller length.  The first is a Cheetah print done in a super plush faux fur.

Next we have my favorite, which is a Russian Lynx faux fur.  Simply gorgeous and luxurious.

Both are stunning examples of what can be done in a faux fur fabric and are a much better choice than the real thing, and much more economical.

Vintage Fashions in Beautiful Plaids

Plaid isn’t just for lumberjacks, cold winter nights or hipsters. Plaid has emerged to fabulous fashions in wonderful fabrics way beyond flannel shirts. The signature apparel of Scotland in the late 17th century is still beautiful today and offered in so many styles and colors. Here is just a sampling of pretty plaids for fall from some of our members:

Fall Fashions – Cooler Weather is Coming!

I know it’s August, and here in Arizona it’s hard to realize that Fall is just around the corner; but it will be here before you know it, and I thought I’d take advantage and get a head start.  My new site Scorpio Vintage has already listed some lovely vintage items.  So here’s my fashion Fall Forecast.

Don Sayers for Wellmore designs have the classic look of St. John Knits, but are much more affordable. Here’s a stunning Little Black Dress with exquisite shoulder & neck embellishment

Next we have a Hand Knit Dress done in a beige wool boucle yarn with shoulder & upper bodice accent in a metallic copper.  Shoulder are done in a Pointelle stitch.  Bombshell Beauty.

Next, we’ve got some Squared toe stiletto pump with color blocks of very fine suede.  This is a much finer & softer suede than you see today.

Next is an Escada 80′s Window pane plaid skirt in a wool blend.  Slim pencil style done in a red tone on tone color.  Classic simplicity.

We hope that you’ll visit our new site.  Click on the pictures to go to the listing.

Those Neon Colors of the 60′s

The 60′s was a wild time, with diverse fashion trends.  It was a decade that broke many fashion traditions, mirroring social movements during the period.  The focus was on Colors & Tones, with accessories taking a back seat.   People were dressing in psychedelic prints, highlighter colors, and mismatched patterns was all the rage.

Many iconic designers & celebrities are associated with the 60′s such as Jackie Kennedy who gave us the “pillbox” hat, and Mary Quant who invented the “mini” skirt, and let’s not forget the “Stiletto” heel.

Scorpio Vintage is proud to be able to offer you a fine selection of 60′s fashions….that never go out of style.  Be the best dressed, from head to toe!

First up is the Iconic designer Malcolm Starr.  This brightly colored floral silk print is perfect for your summer affair.

Next we have a pair of Silk sling back stiletto pumps that show the true meaning of “neon” colors.

This next dress expresses the “Jackie Kennedy” style that was so popular.  Understated elegance in a slubbed silk.

This next dress epitomizes the 60′s love of bright colors.  I  call this print “lightning Bolts”, and is the perfect office attire as so often seen on the TV show “Mad Men”

Stop by and see all the lovely items from this & other  decade

Travelin Girl – Vintage From Every Port All Over The World

Summer Sets = Versatility

Summertime seems to be vacation time, and what better way to get mileage out of your wardrobe, than to take along a couple of sets, that can double up with skirts or slacks.

Scorpio Vintage offers some delightful combinations that could easily be paired with other items.

Going to a wedding, and need a more formal outfit?  Here’s a 60′s silk ribbon dress with matching jacket.  Dress can be worn alone, and jacket could do duty with another dress.

Another possibility for a more casual situation is this colorful, go with anything skirt & blouse set.  The skirt is full & tiered and the blouse is a wrapped crop top.  With this many colors to choose from it could be matched with almost anything.  Great vacation versitility.

Here’s another fabulous set, this one is from Hattie Carnegie, done in a jewel all over pattern.  Multi colors throughout make this another great choice for pairing with other blouses, skirts or slacks.

Last is a lovely skirt & jacket set from Vittadine Sports in a silk like fabric with a hot air balloons.  Print reminds me of a silk scarf & is so silky  to the touch!

The Flowers of SPRING!

While it may be getting hot in my neck of the woods, for most parts of the country Spring flowers are abounding in glorious abundance. So, I’m presenting a bouquet of Spring Floral Dresses for you. Take time to stop and smell the wonderful fragrances of this delicate bouquet.

First up is a lilac print on white seersucker. Dress is short sleeved and has a drop waist. Print has gorgeous cascading lilac blossoms…I can almost smell the fragrance!

Next is a tone on tone highlighting large peach poppies. Maxi dress has a square neckline with three pleat accent & a lovely bias cut skirt.

Third, brings the delicate violet flower. Maxi dress is white lace with a silk screened violet pattern all over.

I love this next dress by Young Edwardian, that is done in a silky faux wrap dress with delicate hued water color floral print.

This dress is definitely a spring bouquet, with it’s bright & bold tulip taffeta print!
